BROWNSVILLE, Tenn.—The Haywood County School board spent four hours Thursday night on their first substantive rounds of talks about a new school superintendent.

Retiring Superintendent Teresa Russell’s last day is June 30.

The board has cut the list of 24 applicants to 11. Some of those applying apparently did not meet the board’s list of basic qualifications.

Five of the 11 are already on the school system’s payroll. They are Yvette Blue, Jerry Pyron, Drayton Hawkins, Gina Rawson and Charles Byrum. The other eligible six are Greg Rockholm, Garth Moss, John Burks, Deborah Jones, Joey Hassal and Dr. D. Rayfield.

Another work session has been scheduled for Wednesday, May 24, at 3:30 p.m.
